In the 60's when star trek was first on TV my mother would make me turn it off because she felt it was demonic. So I would have to find times to watch it when she was not around. It truly was freedom for me to escape the Wt. Cult for a little while. When my wife and I had children we would watch star trek and star trek nex generation with our boy's. Then after the show we would talk about science with them and what things could happen. Again being so deep into the cult this was a little freedom from the cult. I think this is why many JW like Sci-Fi so much. Still Totally ADD

I'm out- Random thoughts on leaving as I look in the rear view mirror
by Skinnedsheep init is amazing to look back at three years and see the journey that we have taken.
i went from being an elder to fading completely in the course of those three years.
along the way i am happy to say that my lovely wife woke up and realized that the truth is nothing but a lie.

As a elder who step down and just walked away I understand where you coming from. I don't know if you are a born-in or not but I found as a born-in doing charitable work and other outside interest was all new to me and in many ways it gave me a feeling of freedom for the first time in my life. Enjoy that feeling. Good luck to you on your education you are taking. So happy for you. Still Totally ADD

Thank you very much Jeff. Back in 2010 I remember a letter from the Wt. to the body of elders which instructed congregation to have the Wt. name on their bank accounts. The Wt. said this would make it easier for the Wt. to get their money for the maz. and so forth. I saw right through it as just another hold the Wt. had on the money in the congregation. About 1 month later I step down as a elder and have never looked back. It's all about $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. Still Totally ADD

THE ULTIMATE statement which addresses the cult of death: Armageddon obsession
by Terry inthis, in my opinion, is one of christopher hitchens' most concise statements about obsession with armageddon.. i'd love to have a transcript of this and just sit and memorize it:).

Thank you Terry for this video. Mr. Hitchen made a great point about how so many are resting their hope on everyone else dying and are happy to see that happen. My father and many others like him had this same mind set. They all would find joy in seeing everyone die at Armagedon except Jw's. Even when I was in the cult I never thought like that instead I felt god would pretty much save everyone except for those who was really evil. Now I see the nonsense of it all. Great statement on the cults of death. Still Totally ADD

Working for JW's
by idiotnomore injust interested in experiences any of you have had working for other witnesses or companies owned by witnesses.
i heard mutterings occassionally from other witnesses they would never work for another witness.
regardless of anything i said, the owner was adamant in his refusal to believe i had ever done anything more than being a delivery driver.

Back in 1976 in FL the right to work state or you get paid by the sunshine we have. I kid you not that was the thinking back then. Being out of work this elder needed help building a foundation for a house. He told me he would treat me well and it was only a 2 day job. Both days ended up 12 hours each. instead of paying me after the job was done it took me 2 months to get my money. I finally got my money all $20.00 worth. I was so upset over this but I could not do anything about it because I had nothing in writing or a agreed amount he would pay me. Then at the age of 22 I believed we needed to respect elders and not talk back to them. So I walk away not saying a word. I should have known better 2 years before that his brother under cut a job we was going to start the next day. We came to work finding him on the job site doing the job. When we asked him why he did this he said he needed the money more that I needed it because he had kids and I was just married. Again because of the way I was raised I walk away without saying a word. It took me awhile to stand up for myself but JW's were I lived are some of the cheapest and cunning people I have ever known. At my last elder school I went to. Last talk ended with this elder shouting "Are we happy that we have the FDS to teach us elders what we need to do and do we show total obedience to their instruction?" Everyone in the room stood up and clap their hands in agreement. No mention of god or his son. That is when I knew I was in a cult. Still Totally ADD

A rose by any other name..............
by sparrowdown ini'm curious, why and how did you choose your username?.
does it hold any special significance for you, is there a share-able back story?.
for me sparrowdown is a playful reference to matt 10:29 and the title of the movie black hawk down.. matt 10:29 was my go-to scrip to "prove" that god cares about us as individuals.

I was 53 years old when I started to wake up because I found out I suffered with ADD. When I started on the meds for ADD my mind seem to open up so I could think clearly. So when I came on this site I used the name Totally ADD. Two years ago my computer died. When I got a new one and tried to log on I forgot my password so I signed up again with the new user name Still Totally ADD and yes I still on the meds. LOL Still Totally ADD

How old were you when baptized?
by Coded Logic ini was baptized at the age of 11. like most of us, my commitment wasnt to honor god but rather i was gang pressed into the service of the wtbts.
and, at such a young age, it was impossible for me to appreciate the enormity of my actions.
honestly, how could i possibly have known any better?

I get on these threads way to long after the fact. LOL Me 60years old my wife 61. I married a Kitten. LOL Trying to wait until 66 to get SS. We both work but only can find part time work. We live very frugal have no house or car payments. Raise a big garden for food. Have 6 chickens for eggs and later soup. Learned how to repurpose almost everything. The only help we get is once a month a local food bank gives us some food. Right now we are working on starting a learning center at our home on herbs. The name of our business is "Love Your Weeds". My wife the herbalist will teach the classes. I also do some furniture refinishing and furniture building. Thanks to the affordable care act we both have health insurance. It cost us only $30.00 a month. We have been told our house is worth some money by a realtor. We are looking into selling it and move into something cheaper and put the rest of the money in the bank. Our retirement will be very busy working and hopefully traveling a little. The sell everything off and live in a RV for the rest of our life was just a big dream. We still have our hopes that things will work out for the better. Still Totally ADD

The other day Reopened Mind and I was talking about this on our drive home from a potluck with friends. It dawn on me this would have been the night to get dressed and go to a meeting. I told my wife don't it feel good not to worry about driving at night to go to the KH or someones house. She said she has totally forgotten about doing that anymore. We went on about all the things we would have to do during the week concerning the Wt. It was no wonder we was tried all the time. The only thing my wife said she missed was dressing up for the meetings. I smiled and said I hated the tie and suit put at lease now when we do dress up it is for a party or some special event not to set in a KH for 2 hours or a sport event building for 6 hours listening to cult talk. We both smiled and started talking about the fall to come. Still Totally ADD
